Elena & Thalia

Elena Zapata and Thalia Castro are two more incredible, award-winning teenagers from Florida, doing so much to change the lives of those less fortunate than themselves through Joshua's Heart Foundation.

Elena Zapata

Elena is 14 years old and a student of Carrollton School in Miami, Florida, USA.  She is part of the National Junior Honor Society and has been awarded the Duke TIP (Talent Identification Programme). Elena is fluent in English, Spanish and Mandarin and enjoys sports activities. She was one of the original Junior Advisory Board members of Joshuas Heart Foundation (JHF), in 2008. With the help of her family she got Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) & World Presidents Organisation (WPO) families to participate in a JHF Thanksgiving food distribution event, which became an annual event. By November 2013 YPO & WPO families have donated over 70,000lbs of food and have over 650 volunteers participated.

In the past Elena has volunteered at several JHF events and has always been willing, when her busy schedule permits, to support Joshua and the JHF foundation. She has also organized toys and book drives to different communities in South Florida. She is a recipient of the Miami Children Hospital Foundation's prestigious 'I make a difference' award.

Thalia Castro

Thalia is an ardent 13 year old world traveler who enjoys the cuisine and culture of the various, exciting places she visits. She is adventurous and willing to experience new culture and customs. Thalia is an honor student at Highland Oaks Middle School, Florida, USA. This will be her fourth year as a Junior Advisory Board member and prior to that she was an elf volunteer. She currently holds the position of Secretary and never misses a distribution unless she is out of town.

When Joshua’s Heart Foundation was founded, she enthusiastically offered to contribute her time and efforts. She was six years old when she participated in her first food distribution and at 13 she hosted her own for Global Youth Service Day 2014 where 800+ pounds of food was distributed to over fifty families. In addition to JHF, Thalia is passionate about dancing; she also enjoys playing soccer and was the captain of her school team.  She is involved in Student Council and is a member of her school orchestra where her instrument of choice is the viola. Thalia always believes “Joshua shows us that you’re never too young to make a difference”.

Congratulations to both Elena and Thalia on their outstanding volunteer work and awesome achievements, from all the team at EduzineGlobal.com
